That's me taking the picture of Chalene Johnson doing her first live PiYo workout with the top Beachbody Coaches at Leadership Retreat in California. PiYo gets it's name from the combination of what it is, Pilates and Yoga. PiYo is a hybrid of the two. The cool thing about PiYo is that it is constant, and features the best moves from Pilates and Yoga to really get your heart going. Because of the fast paced combination of Pilates and Yogo, PiYo can help you burn fat quickly while at the same time increasing muscle tone, increasing strength, and dropping the pant sizes fast. I've heard PiYo described as a hyper version of Yoga, and it would totally be right. Most of the workouts you likely do all focus on form, getting the heart rate up, and power moves. PiYo focuses instead on your breathing, your balance, relaxation and mediation, as well as your form and strength. This will allow you to train injury free and take your level of fitness to a whole new level. The other thing is every time I've gone to Yoga, the music has been pretty dreadful. Not exactly my style. With PiYo, Chalene Johnson has mixed the most incredible music tracks I have ever come across in a workout program. When I heard the music for PiYo, I was an instant fan and had to write a review of the PiYo workout.

This is by far one of the easiest to follow workout systems because it starts with The Fundamentals. First you will go through a gradual warm-up and stretch, follower by a PiYo Power section that will get your heart racing, and then focus on your lower body to improve your balance, flexibility, and muscle endurance.

PiYo Buns

PiYo Buns is a bonus workout that is only included when you buy the workout from a Beachbody Coach like me! It is only 25 minutes in length, so you can definitely get through this workout.It is a high calorie burning workout that focuses specifically on burning fat and toning your ass. PiYo Strength Intervals

PiYo Define: Lower Body

PiYo Define: Upper Body

This is one of my favorite workouts. PiYo Sweat will have you completely soaked from head to toe in sweat. In this 35 minutes workout, Chalene Johnson combines dynamic conditioning, body weight resistance training, yoga flows, powerful athletic movements, and core work all into one power packed 35 minutes workout. You will never again think Yoga is for the weak after completing PiYo Sweat.

Who is PiYo For?

PiYo is really designed for anyone that wants to improve their flexibility, breathing, posture, and strength. No matter who you are, you could be a professional athlete or someone looking to drop 100 pounds, PiYo will get you there. I will say, that because it is a low-impact workout, it is especially good for people that are getting older in age and still want to look amazing, but don't want to risk injury or damaging their joints. But just to be clear, that doesn't mean that a 22 year old in the best shape of his life couldn't try PiYo and be completely exhausted after an intense workout.

What Results Can I Expect from PiYo?

PiYo will give you incredible results. How do I know this? I'm doing PiYo right now. In just two weeks I lost 12 pounds and lost inches from my waist! After 60 days, I lost 22 pounds and lost 16 inches around my stomach and other trouble spots.

Why should you get excited? We have the exclusive interview with Chalene Johnson.

Why are you so excited to introduce PiYo?

PiYo is a proven program that has been so effective in gyms around the world. I’m super excited to bring it to DVD because it’s the program that will shape, strengthen and heal people’s bodies.

Sounds incredible. Who is the ideal PiYo customer, then?

PiYo is for anyone who wants a workout that will help them work on flexibility, cardio and strength—at the same time.

What inspired you to create PiYo?

Whenever I create a fitness program I start with a need. I was doing yoga, but I still felt like I needed to stretch certain areas, do more cardio, and lift more weights. So, I started to think, “How can I get more flexible and develop strength and cardio?” 

What are the main things you need to know about PiYo?

Studies show that a more flexible muscle has greater strength potential which leads to better results. The training you get during PiYo allows you to burn incredible amounts of calories that you wouldn’t in a static type workout.

Did you develop PiYo in response to anything you struggled with personally in your own training?

Totally! I always found I would finish and feel like I didn’t really stretch certain areas. I felt so tight and I’m a fitness professional, it was embarrassing. So when I was developing PiYo I asked my students to show me the one muscle that was the tightest. When people did that I saw five different stretches. It made me realize the important of focusing on flexibility needs so my students could be better at running, etc. I wanted to make PiYo really functional and forget the traditional rules of stretching.

What types of results can people expect to see from PiYo?

My goal is to make everything easier for you. I want you to trust that you can use your own body weight to make yourself stronger. The transformation people will see is amazing.

For example, I have a letter from a lady who said, “Since I started PiYo six months ago, I have broken every single personal marathon pace and I’m astonishingly faster than I ever dreamed possible. I broke the four-hour mark for my marathon time and I know it’s because of Piyo. Plus, normally I’m spent for a week after a marathon, but the next day I felt great!

Would you say PiYo is accessible for all fitness levels?

Yes! PiYo is truly accessible for everyone from the brand spanking new, to the super tight, but super fit. We did some cool things with camera angles so it is very clear how to do each move.

You always have such good playlists. Do you have favorite songs for your PiYo workouts?

When I do PiYo I like moody, cool indie music. I love Marine and the Diamonds, Lady Gaga, even old school like Marvin Gaye –  anything that gives me a sexy, cool, soulful mood. The music in PiYo is really important because if the right song is playing it tells you how to move and flow.

Do you have a favorite move or workout from PiYo?

It’s not a move or workout, but Beachbody granted me my wish. I had an idea to incorporate a piece of equipment that we don’t currently have in our catalog. I’m absolutely in love with it and all the workouts that feature this equipment are my favorite. It’s going to blow peoples’ minds and it’s killing me not to tell you what it is. At the S.S. Beachbody Cruise, Beachbody officially unveiled PiYo, Chalene Johnson’s new workout! As an Elite Beachbody Coach, I received an exclusive copy of PiYo Sweat to try out before everyone else!

PiYo Sweat was designed to get your blood moving and heart racing. We just finished the workout and I have to say, it is one of the most intense forms of Yoga and Pilates I have ever done.

Let me answer some of the pressing questions around PiYo right away before I go into detail on the PiYo Sweat workout. Yes PiYo will be one of the most incredible workouts to come from Beachbody and Chalene Johnson. Yes PiYo will get incredible results. Yes PiYo takes the best of Yoga and Pilates to create the ultimate workout for strength., flexibility, and endurance.

How Does PiYo Sweat Work?

PiYo Sweat really gets you going and sweating. It's based on a series of Pilates and Yoga moves done in rapid succession to get your heart rate going, and your body sweating. It is a 32 minute workout with a 5 minute warm-up so total time you need is 37 minutes. One of the things I love the most about all of Chalene’s workouts is that she actually does the ENTIRE workout. You won’t see her stopping at all. PiYo Sweat is no different as Chalene effortlessly talks to you and explains everything you are doing. This is really her gift. She explains exactly what she doing so you don't have to even look up to the TV that much as you do the workout.

PiYo Heat is what kicks things off after the Warm-Up, followed by Lower Body for 11 minutes. With Lower Body PiYo you can use a chair if you need help with some balance. Plank and Core PiYo follows for 6 minutes. I loved the PiYo push-ups!

At about 8 minutes and 30 seconds left in the workout, Chalene Johnson starts the PiYo Power section of the workout that really gets you going. Some light jumping and high impact moves make it's way into the workout that can really help you take things to the next level. Think a mixture of Pilates, Yoga, and some burpees. The positive affirmations just keep coming from Chalene that really makes the program enjoyable. “Your so awesome! Nice job! You can do anything!”

The last 5 minutes and 30 seconds of the workout are all about stretching and strength. The corner stone of PiYo. Strength, core, cardio.

PiYo Sweat has a great modifier in the program so if you are finding some of the movements challenging, you can follow the modifier. There are three others doing the workout alongside Chalene Johnson in PiYo Sweat.
